About Lake Cuyamaca

Our picture-book 110 acre lake is proof positive that good things come in small packages. Situated at an elevation of 4600 feet in an Oak and Pine forest and surrounded on 3 sides by the 26,000 acre Cuyamaca Rancho State Park of which 52% is classified as wilderness. Stocked with over 44,000 lbs. of fish, Lake Cuyamaca is the only San Diego lake that is able to stock trout all year long. Other species of fish include Florida bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, bluegill and sturgeon. Visit our Lake Records page for the ones that didn't get away.

GPS Fishing Guide

Lake Cuyamaca is the first lake in San Diego County to offer a fully interactive GPS Fishing Guide of our facility. Click on the GPS Fishing Guide button to the left and find the best fishing spots at Lake Cuyamaca!

Family Friendly

Free fishing classes every Saturday at 10 AM., with fly and bass fishing classes offered periodically during the appropriate time of year. The free guided nature walk around the 3.5 mile trail surrounding the lake is  being rescheduled - please check back for updates. A Youth Fishing Program is also offered at Lake Cuyamaca.

Motor boat rentals are available daily for a reasonable fee. Paddle boats and canoes are also available on a seasonal basis. Free tip sheets are provided on the best way to catch each species of fish. The best fishing is during the last 3 hours of daylight.

Dog policy: We love dogs on a leash and out of the water, they can go in our boats and are welcome in our cabins but, PLEASE, pick up after your dog.

Lake Cuyamaca has 40 RV sites and 14 tent sites next to the lake and we now have two cabins, "Rainbow Rendezvous" and "Raccoon Hollow", available for rent. Rainbow Rendezvous is wheelchair accessible. Reservations are accepted from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday - Thursday, only.

Additionally, the State Park has 160 campsites located close to the lake, including 16 campsites for horse people. The State Park also has a museum and runs campfire programs and nature hikes.

Nearby, historic Julian provides a wonderful shopping and dining opportunity between fishing outings.

Lake Cuyamaca is the best spot in Southern California for viewing native wildlife species. Deer and other animals can be seen along the lake shore almost any morning or evening.
